Most of you have probably already seen this announcement on š. But in case you missed it: Kay Klingson is a pseudonym.
More specifically, itās an anagram.
Let me introduce myself properly: Iām Kyna Kosling.
Kindly pronounce the first name as āKEE-naā. Itās a Scottish Gaelic name (no family significance) that means āwisdomā. Iāve already been told my parents chose the name well.
Iāve also already been told that this was āmeant to beā, considering that I genuinely share Kristjanās initials. The stream notes really were by KK, about KK.
As previously mentioned, Iām British, 28 years old, a keen amateur pianist and a massive tea lover.
More specifically, I was born in the UK, but grew up in the Netherlands, attending Dutch schools, then moved back to the UK for university, studying linguistics. Thatās when I started āproperā writing in English, then embarked on my technical writing career just before turning 22. Iāve remained in the UK since.
My piano is a wonderful Shigeru Kawai, which is a delight to play and has ruined me for most other pianos. I tried hundreds of pianos around the country before falling in love with this one.
Heās a big boy though, taking up a third of my awkwardly-shaped living room. I kid you not: I have to crawl under the piano to reach the keys ā the space is that tight.
Iām very serious about my tea, too. In university, I was chair of the SocieTEA for two years. Plus, my mum is from Taiwan (but my dad is British), so I do like a good oolong tea. I also have a modest collection of teapots.
Itās perhaps unfortunate Iāve started a ābuy me a coffeeā page!
If you find my writing valuable, I do appreciate it if youād buy me a coffee, as this Substack will never be paywalled. I made that decision from day one.
The goal is to provide traders with actionable insights so that you can improve. I canāt do the hard work for you, but I can propose tools for doing the right hard work yourself.
I always love to hear from readers, but my favourite messages are along the lines of āyou inspired me to actually do that deep dive/crunch my numbers, and it massively improved my tradingā. Honestly, those make my day.
If that philosophy sounds good to you, please subscribe:
Or if you want to find out more about this Substack first, check out the āAboutā page ā I updated it last Sunday.
Why the pseudonym?
I was already writing under my own name in a different industry: cyber security and data privacy. As a professional writer, itās generally better to keep unrelated work clearly separate by using different names for each.
(If security and privacy interest you, hereās an index of interviews Iāve conducted for my employer. This is my current favourite.)
Iām also not the most self-confident of people, and between graduating from university and starting this Substack, Iād only ever done ghostwriting. Even publishing under a pseudonym was nerve-racking for me ā I didnāt want to compound that by publishing under my own name, particularly from day one.
Thereās also the fact I really donāt like it when people mispronounce my name, which tends to happen when they read (rather than hear) it. The idea of being known by my real first letter ā albeit written out ā just felt better.
But Iād been running into some problems of late by not using my real name, most notably around verification. Thus the reveal.
Narrating my stacks
As weāre already getting personal, I figured Iād add my voice into the mix, too.
Specifically, Iāve narrated a couple of recent stacks:
3 Core Principles to an Edge
6 Ways to Treat Trading Like a Sport
I realise that audio stacks donāt always work well, particularly when charts are involved. But I thought this was an experiment worth trying.
Please do elaborate on your answers in the comments below!
As ever, thank you for all your support ā¤ļø
Kyna
P.S. As a one-off, hereās a recording of my dadās favourite piece for piano solo: All of Me by Jon Schmidt. Please forgive that Shigeru is due a tuning.
P.P.S. Next week, Iāll write about trading again. Promise.
thanks Kyna for all the hard work you have done to create this great substack!
I was surprised when you revealed yourself. Thanks for doing that! It made me feel you are closer and genuine. And of course your writings about KK is superbbb. Kudos to that. Keep up the good work Kyna!
